Struggles during heavy road defeat
Smith had one interception in Saturday's 5-1 defeat against Chelsea.
Analysis: Smith recorded one interception without attempting a tackle or registering a clearance across 72 minutes of Saturday's 5-1 loss to Chelsea. He was part of a Bournemouth back line that conceded twice inside the opening three minutes and another goal within 30 seconds of the second-half restart, leaving the Cherries chasing the match almost throughout. Smith was replaced by Juanlu with Chelsea already holding a four-goal advantage.
Another season as starter
Smith has started in all five matches to open the Premier League season.
Analysis: Smith is back with the Cherries for another season as a starter at right-back, having yet to start on the bench this season in his five league appearances. This has been a regular sight at the club for numerous years, only seeing a drop off in time last campaign, although the exit of Alex Jimenez opened up more time for Smith again. Smith's value does remain somewhat limited as a primarily defensive right-back, not regularly earning many crosses or goal contributions.
