Bryan Cristante
Unused versus Slovan Bratislava
Cristante (knee) didn't play in Tuesday's 4-0 win over Slovan Bratislava.
Analysis: Cristante came back a little earlier than anticipated but wasn't risked right away, as Roma cruised to an easy win in this one. He'll unseat either Niccolo Pisilli or Marten De Roon once he's fit enough to resume starting after a pair of ailments.
Called up midweek
Cristante (knee) has been named in Roma's squad list to face Slovan Bratislava on Tuesday.
Analysis: Cristante recovered a little more quickly than expected and will be an option after missing three games due to knee soreness, although he could be handled carefully in this one. Niccolo Pisilli and Marten De Roon have replaced him and Manu Kone (thigh) lately. He has taken at least one shot in four consecutive matches, amassing nine attempts (two on target), scoring once and adding two key passes, three crosses (zero accurate) and six tackles (three won) over that span.
Stays on the mend
Cristante (knee) "could return versus Napoli next week," coach Gian Piero Gasperini stated.
Analysis: Cristante would have come in handy with Manu Kone (thigh) getting hurt midweek, but he's not quite ready yet. Niccolo Pisilli, Marten De Roon and Lorenzo Pellegrini will hold down the fort in the role.
Out for Real Madrid clash
Cristante (knee) "needs a little more time to heal up," coach Gian Piero Gasperini relayed.
Analysis: Cristante will sit out his second consecutive match midweek and is at risk for at least a couple more, as he has yet to resume practicing due to knee soreness. Marten De Roon and Niccolo Pisilli will continue to fill in for him in the midfield.
Sidelined for Como tilt
Cristante will likely miss the Como and Real Madrid matches, Sky Italy reported.
Analysis: Cristante has been rehabbing and training on his own due to a sore knee in recent days and will be re-evaluated next week. Marten De Roon is currently considered the frontrunner to replace him over Niccolo Pisilli and Lorenzo Pellegrini.
Suffers new injury
Cristante might miss time after the break due to knee soreness, Sky Italy reported.
Analysis: Cristante didn't answer Italy's call-up because of a minor back problem, but he hasn't been spotted in training lately because of a different issue, and he might need more than a week to recover fully. Niccolo Pisilli and Marten De Roon would pick up the slack if necessary.
Withdraws from Italy call-up
Cristante won't take part in the upcoming Nations League games with Italy due to back spasms, Tuttomercatoweb reported.
Analysis: Cristante has played almost full minutes so far, subbing off a little early only once, but he's been deemed unfit to play with the national team during the break. He's highly likely to be good to go for October 10's fixture versus Como.
Scores in Thursday's draw
Cristante scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal), one cross (zero accurate) and one chance created in Thursday's 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 86th minute.
Analysis: Cristante opened up the scoring Thursday with an outside-the-box strike in the 39th minute off a Donyell Malen assist. It was the only shot he took in the match and he also created one chance. Cristante will need to be at his best next time in the Champions League when he and Roma take on Real Madrid.
Works hard in Fiorentina bout
Cristante registered four tackles (two won), four clearances and two interceptions and created one scoring chance in Monday's 4-0 victory against Fiorentina.
Analysis: Cristante was significantly more noticeable in the back than in the final third and was instrumental in stifling the opponents. His tasks vary depending on who his midfield partner is. He scored and assisted twice last season, logging 54 shots (nine on target), 30 chances created and 86 tackles.
