Not close to being ready

Pellegrini (thigh) "won't be ready to play for at least another month," coach Gian Piero Gasperini stated.

Analysis: Pellegrini underwent surgery on his thigh after the end of last season and will need some more time to heal and to get up to speed physically, considering also that he worked on his own for a while, given his free agent status. Paulo Dybala, Matias Soule, Niccolo Pisilli and Neil El Aynaoui stand to benefit from his absence.

Returns to Roma

Pellegrini has inked a one-year deal with an option with Roma.

Analysis: Pellegrini spent most of the summer without a team before electing to go back to his old one. He's recovering from a follow-up procedure on his past thigh injury, so he wouldn't have been able to practice even if he were put under contract sooner, Tuttomercatoweb reported. His status for the opener is up in the air. He tallied seven goals, four assists, 47 shots (20 on target) and 127 crosses (86 accurate) in 33 appearances (25 starts) last season. Roma have not added any other player in his role despite a few attempts.

Unfit for season finale

Pellegrini won't be available against Verona due to some soreness near an old scar in his thigh, although he'll make the trip to support his teammates, Corriere dello Sport relayed.

Analysis: Pellegrini could technically make the bench but won't play because of some muscular discomfort, missing his sixth contest in a row. He's been a regular throughout the season and performed better than in the past one, scoring seven goals, assisting four times and notching 47 shots (20 on target), 49 chances created and 127 crosses (37 accurate) in 31 displays (25 starts).

Still out for derby with Lazio

Pellegrini (thigh) hasn't been selected for Sunday's bout versus Lazio.

Analysis: Pellegrini seemed to be trending in the right direction, but he missed the final cut and will skip his fifth contest in a row. He'll attempt to return next week against Hellas Verona. Niccolo Pisilli and Paulo Dybala are supporting Donyell Malen in this one, while Stephan El Shaarawy and Matias Soule begin as subs.

On track for Lazio contest

Pellegrini (thigh) is expected back for Sunday's game versus Lazio, as he's been practicing with no limitations in recent days, Il Messaggero reported.

Analysis: Pellegrini has completed his recovery from a thigh strain that forced him to miss four matches and will likely have a back-up role behind Paulo Dybala and Matias Soule in this one. He has registered at least one cross and one corner in 16 appearances in a row, totaling 74 (26 accurate) and 47, respectively, scoring four goals, providing three assists and tallying 19 shots (six on target) and 28 chances created over that span.
