Alessandro Deiola
Contributes defensively versus Juventus
Deiola (knee) generated two tackles (one won) and two clearances and received a yellow card in 45 minutes in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Juventus.
Analysis: Deiola came off the bench in his return from a knee injury, replacing Juan Rodriguez in the back. He had played as a midfielder over Jacopo Fazzini and Yanis Massolin in the previous matches. He has posted at least one tackle, amassing 11 (five won), and one clearance, piling up 23, in all six matches, adding four interceptions and five blocks and contributing to three clean sheets.
Fit for bench
Deiola (knee) is on the bench for Sunday's match against Juventus.
Analysis: Deiola is back in the squad for Cagliari but will only be an option from the bench following his knee operation. He is typically a starter for the club, so it does appear they are being cautious, potentially not even seeing the field Sunday. Either way, it is a good sign that he is on the team sheet, as he has made a speedy recovery.
Probable for Juventus clash
Deiola (knee) "has been able to recuperate quickly. We're making our final evaluations, but he's set to be at least called up," coach Fabio Pisacane stated.
Analysis: Deiola injured his knee before the break and will be able to avoid missing times thanks to a particularly speedy recovery. He'll likely begin on the bench after starting every tilt so far, recording 21 clearances, nine tackles (four won) and four interceptions and contributing to one clean sheet.
Suffers knee injury
Deiola had a torn meniscus surgically removed from his left knee, Cagliari announced.
Analysis: Deiola took some tests after experiencing some discomfort in training and quickly went under the knife. He'll miss a month or so and therefore multiple matches. He has played both as a center-back and as a central midfielder in the early going. Yerry Mina and Raphael Kofler will pick up the slack in the first role, while Jacopo Fazzini and Roberto Gagliardini in the second one.
Busy in Atalanta contest
Deiola registered two blocks, six clearances and two interceptions and won one of three tackles in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Atalanta.
Analysis: Deiola continues to be fielded as a center-back due to Yerry Mina's physical problems and had his best display yet, setting a new season high in clearances, even though his side gave up one goal. He has registered at least one tackle, amassing eight (four won), and one clearance, totaling 17, in the first four rounds, adding four interceptions and four blocks and contributing to two clean sheets over that span.
Unused sub in Udinese match
Deiola (thigh) didn't play in Saturday's 2-0 defeat against Cagliari.
Analysis: Deiola was healthy enough to be selected but not to see minutes, and the coach mostly made offensive-minded subs in this one. He could supplant Paul Mendy. Michael Folorunsho or Michel Adopo, depending on the team's posture, in the last two fixtures.
Makes squad for Udinese game
Deiola (thigh) has been called up for Saturday's tilt versus Udinese.
Analysis: Deiola was able to work with the rest of his teammates on the eve of the game and will be available despite leaving early last week, but his minutes might be watched closely. He has notched at least one shot in his last five displays (four starts), racking up 12 attempts (three on target) and adding one chance created and five tackles (three won) over that span. Paul Mendy or Ibrahim Sulemana could get the nod over him.
Diagnosed with mild injury
Deiola is nursing rectus femoris muscle fatigue in his right thigh, Cagliari announced.
Analysis: Deiola escaped without a strain or other significant injuries and is day-to-day ahead of Saturday's home game versus Udinese. Paul Mendy, Andrea Belotti or Ibrahim Sulemana could start in the next round if Deiola were unable to.
Leaves Bologna game in first half
Deiola recorded one shot (zero on goal) and committed one foul in 42 minutes before exiting Sunday's clash with Bologna due to a possible thigh problem, Sky Italy reported.
Analysis: Deiola had a goal disallowed early because of an offside and didn't do a lot before bowing out after receiving treatment because of a muscular issue late in the first half. He'll take tests before Saturday's home contest versus Bologna. Ibrahima Sulemana replaced him in this one.
