Definitively ruled out of El Clasico
Courtois (illness) will not travel to Barcelona and has been definitively ruled out of Sunday's La Liga clash against Barcelona due to flu-like symptoms, according to Marca.
Analysis: Courtois will miss Sunday's El Clasico after failing to recover sufficiently from the illness that initially prompted Real Madrid to remove him from the matchday squad. The Belgian goalkeeper had hoped to improve in time to travel separately to Barcelona, but those plans have now been abandoned. Andriy Lunin is expected to take over between the posts in his absence, with Courtois remaining in Madrid to recover. The severity of his illness leaves his availability for Real Madrid's next fixture uncertain.
Could still feature in El Clasico
Courtois (illness) is hopeful of recovering in time for Sunday's La Liga clash against Barcelona and could still travel with Real Madrid despite initially being ruled out due to flu-like symptoms, according to The Athletic.
Analysis: Courtois could make a late return to contention after Real Madrid initially announced Sunday morning that he would miss El Clasico due to illness. The Belgian goalkeeper is reportedly optimistic about recovering sufficiently to travel and make himself available, although his participation remains uncertain. Andriy Lunin had been expected to start in his absence, while Illia Voloshyn was added to the matchday squad as additional cover. Courtois' potential availability would provide Madrid with a significant boost, but a final decision on his involvement is still pending.
