Kept busy
Giles generated 15 crosses (four accurate) and four corners in Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 49th minute.
Analysis: Giles worked nonstop Saturday, firing in 15 crosses, four accurate, while creating two key passes in the loss to Newcastle. His defensive output has been just as steady, with four interceptions, three tackles won, and three clean sheets. He's also chipped in an assist on eight key passes, showing he can pile up stats on both sides of the pitch.
Registers first assist
Giles assisted once to go with seven crosses (three accurate) and two chances created in Saturday's 2-2 draw versus Chelsea.
Analysis: Giles has been a consistent source of supply from the left over the past week and finally got his name on the scoresheet in the assists column against Chelsea, where his ball into the box got the better of Jorrel Hato and dropped kindly for Belloumi. He almost had a second late in the game after teeing up Mohamed Ali Cho with the best chance of the closing stages, only for the finish to let him down. The wing back has six chances created and 28 crosses from the opening four matches to his name and sits top of the pile for big chances created with three.
Eight crosses in clean sheet
Giles had eight crosses (one accurate) and two chances created in Saturday's 0-0 draw versus Aston Villa.
Analysis: Giles is the most adventurous defender in the Hull back line, a different proposition to Lewis Coyle on the opposite side, and he very nearly ended the game with an assist when he picked out Oli McBurnie for the biggest chance of the game, although the forward was unable to convert. The left back created two chances against Villa and has managed at least one in each of the last three games, with 21 crosses over that run and a shot of his own to go with it. He registered eight assists last season, and that attacking end alongside the clean sheet potential in this Hull defence could make him a valuable option.
Sends in five crosses
Giles recorded five crosses (one accurate) and one chance created in Saturday's 1-0 win against Coventry City.
Analysis: Giles was regularly involved going forward from left-back, producing five crosses across 90 minutes, including a second-half delivery that narrowly missed Mohamed Belloumi at the back post. Only one cross was accurate, but the volume illustrates his willingness to overlap and provide service from wide areas. His attacking profile should make him an important source of width for Hull City throughout the season.
Set to provide width
Giles was one of Hull's most creative players during the promotion campaign, finishing the season as the club's chief chance creator with eight Championship assists and 41 key passes while providing a consistent attacking threat from the left-back position throughout the season.
Analysis: Giles's ability to get forward, deliver dangerous crosses and combine with the attackers ahead of him made him one of the standout performers in the division, and his output from a defensive position was remarkable. His highly offensive style as a left wingback was one of the defining features of Hull's promotion campaign, constantly threatening down the flank and creating danger in the final third, with his set-piece responsibilities adding yet another creative dimension to his game. The Premier League will be a significant test of his defensive capabilities, but his creative output, delivery from the left side and set-piece quality give Hull City a dynamic and exciting option in that position heading into the new campaign.
