Quiet outing in World Cup exit
Dias had two clearances in Monday's 1-0 defeat versus Spain.
Analysis: Dias failed to stand out in an unfavorable clash, falling short of his averages of 60.2 accurate passes and 4.2 clearances per game. It was the final match of the tournament for Portugal, so Dias' next chance to produce will come in Manchester City's preseason action. After recovering from a minor injury, he started the last four contests for his national team, contributing to a pair of clean sheets over that span, yet struggling to defend against the tougher opposition in the knockout rounds.
Records five clearances
Dias generated three tackles (two won), five clearances and two interceptions in Thursday's 2-1 win over Croatia. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 17th minute.
Analysis: Dias was a starter in the back for Portugal once again as he played 90 minutes, a third straight start for the defender. He would bag a decent day in the defense despite the goal allowed, recording two interceptions, three tackles and five clearances. The veteran defender remains a major part of the team in defense, supporting the other younger central defender, Renato Veiga.
