Operating as second choice
Rulli has yet to make a Premier League appearance this season, with his only playing time coming in a 90-minute Carabao Cup appearance.
Analysis: Rulli has settled into the expected backup role behind Gianluigi Donnarumma, who remains Manchester City's undisputed first-choice goalkeeper. The Argentine's only opportunity so far has come in the Carabao Cup, and domestic cup competition should continue to provide his clearest route to minutes. Despite arriving with extensive starting experience from Marseille, Rulli is unlikely to see significant Premier League action unless Donnarumma is rested or unavailable.
Signs with Manchester City
Rulli signed a two year contract with Manchester City through the summer of 2028 after departing Marseille, the club announced.
Analysis: Rulli made 34 appearances with 5 clean sheets in his first season at Marseille before improving to 39 appearances and 9 clean sheets last season, establishing himself as the club's clear number one across two productive campaigns in Ligue 1. The 34-year-old goalkeeper has also won 8 caps for Argentina, part of the squad that won the 2022 World Cup and 2024 Copa America before finishing runner-up at this summer's World Cup. Rulli is expected to serve as backup to Gianluigi Donnarumma in goal for City.
