Completes move to Fenerbahce

Ake has completed a permanent transfer to Fenerbahce from Manchester City, the Turkish club announced.

Analysis: Ake ends a six year spell at Manchester City that began in 2020 from Bournemouth for a reported fee of around 45 million euros, making 177 appearances and winning 12 trophies including the Premier League and Champions League. Playing time became scarce over his final seasons undercoach Pep Guardiola as City reshaped their backline. The versatile defender, capable of playing left back, center back or defensive midfield, was fresh off the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the Netherlands, starting in three of Oranje's four matches including the round of 32 loss to Morocco. At Fenerbahce he fills a specific need at left sided center back, per club executive Cihan Kamer, and will join the squad at their training camp in Austria once his league permission process is finalized.

Starts in round of 32

Ake registered one clearance and two interceptions in Monday's 1-1 (4-3) penalty shootout loss against Morocco.

Analysis: Ake would start the final two games of the World Cup for the Netherlands, as he once again started against Morocco as the Dutch went for a more defensive look. He recorded a clearance and two interceptions in a decent match, coming off the field before Morocco scored. The veteran defender recorded one tackle won, four clearances and four interceptions in 170 minutes of play this World Cup.
