Settling in as regular starter
Rodri has started in Barcelona's midfield in the last five matches after making his debut off the bench against Athletic Club.
Analysis: Rodri joined Barcelona from Manchester City this summer after winning the World Cup and being named the tournament's best player, and he made his first start in the Sept. 6 win at Valencia after missing the season opener while recovering from minor back surgery. He has progressively taken on a larger midfield role since, starting in the last five games across all competitions for the Blaugranas, contributing to a total of 14 tackles, nine interceptions, nine clearances and 450 passes across 439 minutes from seven appearances in all competitions. His extensive injury history, including a serious ACL tear in 2024, means his workload will likely continue to be carefully managed in the coming months.
Makes Barca debut Thursday
Rodri had one clearance in Thursday's 2-0 win against Athletic.
Analysis: Rodri made his debut for Barcelona Thursday, replacing Raphinha in the 63rd minute. He helped continue his new clubs defensive dominance and he created one chance on the attack. Coming off a World Cup win with Spain, a tournament where he was awarded the Golden Ball, he's sure to play a massive role in midfield this season.
