Fully available for Celta clash
Josan is fully available for Sunday's La Liga clash against Celta Vigo despite recent off-field issues, coach Martin Anselmi confirmed.
Analysis: Josan has been cleared for selection after participating in team training Thursday despite the recent controversy surrounding his personal circumstances. The club captain was reportedly detained following an alleged domestic abuse complaint, though he and his partner subsequently issued a joint statement denying that any judicial proceedings were open against him. Coach Anselmi's confirmation removes any uncertainty surrounding his immediate playing status, with Josan available to contribute against Celta. The midfielder has primarily featured off the bench this season and recently recorded his first assist of the campaign during the loss to Real Madrid.
Trains despite recent off-field issues
Josan was spotted participating in team training Thursday despite recent off-field issues following reports of his detention over an alleged domestic abuse complaint, according to Ismael of Todo Alicante.
Analysis: Josan appears to be continuing his regular training routine despite the recent controversy surrounding his personal circumstances, with the club captain working alongside his teammates ahead of the upcoming clash against Celta Vigo. The midfielder and his partner previously issued a joint statement denying that any judicial proceedings were open against him, though Elche have yet to officially address his availability for upcoming fixtures. His participation in training suggests he remains in contention for selection, having primarily featured off the bench this season while recently recording his first assist of the campaign against Real Madrid.
Availability uncertain amid legal situation
Josan's availability for Elche's upcoming matches is uncertain following reports that he was detained after a complaint alleging domestic abuse, though the midfielder and his partner subsequently issued a joint statement denying that any judicial proceedings are currently open against him, according to Nacho Labarga of Marca.
Analysis: Josan's situation remains unclear following conflicting reports surrounding his personal circumstances, with no official indication from Elche regarding his availability for upcoming fixtures. The club captain has primarily featured off the bench this season and recently recorded his first goal contribution of the campaign, assisting Fer Nino during Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Real Madrid. Any potential impact on his playing status remains speculative at this stage, with further clarification needed before determining whether he'll be available for selection.
Earns assist
Josan assisted once to go with one cross (zero accurate) and one chance created in Tuesday's 3-2 loss versus Real Madrid. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 93rd minute.
Analysis: Josan was welcomed to the field for 10 minues Tuesday, earning a role from the bench to end the contest. It would still be enough time to level the match before an eventual loss, as he would find Fer Nino in the 83rd minute for an assist. This comes as his first goal contribution of the season, hopefully earning the midfielder more time.
Extends contract through 2027
Josan signed a one year contract extension with Elche through June 2027, the club announced.
Analysis: Josan will begin his tenth season with the club, having made 281 official appearances to rank ninth on Elche's all time list. The captain has been part of several promotion campaigns during his decade with the club, including last season's effort to secure survival in LaLiga. His leadership and connection with supporters have made him one of the squad's most important figures. Josan is expected to continue serving as a key veteran presence for Elche as he begins his tenth campaign with the club.
Credited with assist in draw
Josan assisted once to go with nine crosses (four accurate) and three corners in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Deportivo Alaves.
Analysis: Josan needed 23 minutes off the bench to make an impact for Elche, as he finished the game with an assist, four chances created, nine crosses and three corners taken. The playmaker could provide a spark with his creativity in a tough matchup against Betis on Tuesday, but his fantasy upside won't be very high if he continues to come off the bench.
