On bench Sunday
Lira (not injury related) is on the bench for Sunday's meeting with Santos.
Analysis: Lira has rejoined the squad after his transfer to Monaco was frustrated in the final day of the transfer window. However, he only resumed training sessions for a few days prior to the weekend match and will come off the bench before taking over a starting spot from either Amaury Garcia in the back line or Angel Marquez in midfield. While it remains to be seen if the emotional blow of failing to secure a move to Europe after the World Cup will affect his performance, Lira should eventually feature as a pivotal element in midfield duels and ball distribution for the Cementeros.
Out while future remains unresolved
Lira is not available for Saturday's match against Atlas while his future at the club remains undefined, with no imminent transfer agreement in sight for the time being, Cesar Caballero of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Lira is missing from the Cementeros' squad for the first time in the Apertura campaign while the team negotiates with Ligue 1 side Monaco for his potential move. The versatile man occupies a dual role in Cruz Azul's system, covering both as a starting defensive midfielder and as a rotational center-back, which makes his exclusion a personnel disruption on two fronts simultaneously. Agustin Palavecino and Carlos Rodriguez are the available pivot options, while Willer Ditta and Jesus Orozco would need to take on increased defensive duties if called upon. The situation looks increasingly like a departure is coming, and the longer it drags without resolution the more it affects the club's ability to plan its lineup with any certainty.
