Scores in draw
Martin scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) and one chance created in Sunday's 2-2 draw against Valencia. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 92nd minute.
Analysis: Martin collected a fortunate deflection in the 47th minute and buried it to give Racing their second goal the match, breaking a six-game stretch without a direct contribution since joining the club. His 93 percent pass accuracy from 72 attempts was the clearest expression of his value as a distributor, and the chance he created added to an all-around involved performance in possession. The one concern worth flagging is a drop-off in defensive work over the last two matches, as his tackle numbers have fallen noticeably, which raises the question of whether he's being asked to press less or simply finding fewer opportunities to win the ball in the current system.
Completes Santander move
Martin is a new signing for Racing Santander following his departure from Girona, the club announced Thursday.
Analysis: Martin has previously featured as a balanced midfield contributor for the recently relegated Girona, where he took part in the team's historic Champions League qualification season in 2023/24. Over his full stint with his previous club, he tallied nine goals and nine assists across 127 league games played (104 starts) while adding seven appearances (five starts) in UCL action. He'll give his new team an interesting alternative to Sergio Martinez, Gustavo Puerta and Sergio Canales in central spots.
