Limited to reserve role
Diakite has yet to play a minute in the Premier League this season, while making just two appearances across other competitions, including 27 minutes off the bench in the Europa League and 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup.
Analysis: Diakite has been limited to a backup role this season, with James Hill ahead of him in the pecking order at center-back. His lack of Premier League minutes underlines his current position in the squad, though his ability to cover both central defense and right-back provides some additional versatility. Diakite should remain an option for rotation in cup and European fixtures while competing for increased playing time in the league.
Starts against Magpies
Diakite (undisclosed) is in the starting XI for Sunday's match against Newcastle.
Analysis: Diakite is back in the team sheet Sunday after overcoming an injury, returning to a spot in the starting XI immediately. He has now started in all four games this season and should remain in a starting role moving forward.
