Nursing thigh strain

Kone "has been diagnosed with a grade one strain, which isn't overly concerning but will take some time to heal. The goal is to have him back versus Sassuolo before the next break," coach Gian Piero Gasperini relayed.

Analysis: Kone will skip multiple fixtures because of a muscular injury and the packed schedule and is targeting a return in early November. Roma are down to two pure midfielders, Niccolo Pisilli and Marten De Roon, as Bryan Cristante (knee) isn't available yet. Mario Hermoso and Lorenzo Pellegrini could get some minutes in the role in a pinch.

Forced off with muscle issue

Kone was forced off after 16 minutes of Wednesday's Champions League match against Real Madrid, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Analysis: Kone went down with a muscular problem early in the first half at the Olimpico and was unable to continue despite treatment on the touchline, leaving the pitch in tears with his shirt over his face. Niccolo Pisilli replaced him, and the tests scheduled for the coming hours will establish the extent of the injury and any recovery timeline.
