Benched for second straight match
Andersen was dropped to the bench for the last two games, with coach Alvaro Arbeloa favoring David Affengruber over him. The player said after the game against United, per Sport Witness. "It comes as a bit of a surprise to me. Last season, I was captain in many matches, We lost the first three matches. I was suspended for the first one. And then the coach thinks we should change. But I don't have much to say about it. I can't do much about it, and I think I've played quite brilliantly. Sometimes the coach wants to try something different, and that's how it is."
Analysis: Andersen was an undisputed starter over the last two seasons, playing 2,877 league minutes across 33 starts last term and captaining the side in the majority of them. In the current campaign, the Denmark international served the final match of a suspension carried over from last season in the opening defeat to Chelsea, then started the losses to Sunderland and Crystal Palace. However, he was an unused substitute in the goalless draw with Liverpool and managed only 10 minutes against Manchester United. Arbeloa changed his back line after three straight defeats and brought in David Affengruber to the heart of defence, with Fulham taking two points from the two matches since, keeping one clean sheet and coming close to a second against Manchester United. As a result, Andersen could face a spell as a rotation option unless injuries or results force a rethink.
Wins on tackle in loss
Andersen registered two tackles (one won), four clearances and one interception in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Crystal Palace.
Analysis: Andersen had a busy outing Saturday, winning a tackle and supplying two key passes while adding four effective clearances, though his defensive line still conceded three goals to Crystal Palace. He's appeared twice this season after opening the campaign suspended, going the full 90 in both matches and totaling one tackle won, seven aerials won, and 11 effective clearances in that span.
