Weghorst recorded one tackle (one won) in Monday's 1-1 (4-3) penalty shootout defeat to Morocco.
Analysis: Weghorst would change the match almost immediately for the Netherlands once he entered the field, entering the field in the 71st minute before flicking on a header that would fall to the feet of Crysencio Summerville, who would find Cody Gakpo for a goal, with the ball only finding the back of the net because of Weghorst. He would also convert from the penalty spot in the shootout. This was his only appearance of the World Cup, recording just one tackle won and five passes in 49 minutes.
Departs Ajax for FC Twente
Weghorst will leave Ajax for FC Twente after his contract expired, the club announced.
Analysis: Weghorst joined Ajax from Burnley in August 2024, scoring 10 league goals in his debut season to finish as the club's top scorer, before contributing nine goals across 34 appearances last season including five in the Champions League. Weghorst ends his two-year spell at Ajax with 65 official appearances, 20 goals and six assists, and now continues his career at Twente, currently representing the Netherlands at the World Cup.
