Sent off in loss
Pineda has earned a one-game ban after receiving a red card in Saturday's 1-0 loss to Guadalajara.
Analysis: Pineda played almost the entire match Saturday, though a late foul led to his dismissal and consequent suspension. He'll be ineligible for the round 15 fixture against Tijuana before returning to contention for a trip to Toluca. This leaves Rayados without a versatile midfielder versus Xolos, a void that might be covered by either Oliver Torres or Luca Orellano.
Assists against America
Pineda assisted once to go with two shots (zero on goal), one cross (one accurate) and three chances created in Saturday's 1-1 draw versus America.
Analysis: Pineda played a ball into the center of the box for Diego Rossi to finish in the 18th minute, setting up the opening goal during the draw. It was Pineda's fifth direct contribution of the campaign across all competitions and first since Aug. 25, and he returned to the starting lineup after missing a game while on international duty. He operated a little higher in central midfield, with Cesar Garza and Oliver Torres providing more defensive support, though it's unclear if the will continue to be the case in upcoming fixtures.
Starts against America
Pineda is back in the starting lineup for Saturday'a duel versus America following his return from international duty.
Analysis: Pineda has avoided any further absence after being part of the Mexican national team in a few friendly games over the break. He has moved back and forth between defensive and attacking roles in central midfield, and the fact that both Oliver Torres and Cesar Garza are in the lineup as well means he could push forward in this contest. The former AEK Athens player had previously delivered one goal and an assist across seven Apertura outings.
Serving international duty
Pineda was selected as part of Mexico's national team for upcoming friendly matches and will be ineligible for his club in the 10th Apertura round versus Atlante.
Analysis: Pineda produced three goals and one assist across 12 Liga MX or Leagues Cup games before his forced absence due to national team responsibilities. Although he has excelled for his offensive skills, his most frequent role has been as part of a two-man defensive midfield, which may now be filled by Oliver Torres and last weekend's scorer Cesar Garza. The Mexican international will most likely bounce back into the initial lineup for an Oct. 10 visit to America.
Scores, assists in win
Pineda scored a goal off his lone shot, delivered an assist, created three chances, made three tackles (all won) and three interceptions and drew four fouls during Saturday's 6-1 win over Juarez.
Analysis: Pineda owned the middle of the park and was also a threat up front as he assisted his team's third goal and scored the fourth himself. This was just the second start for the midfielder in his return to Liga MX after four years in Europe and expectation is that he can offer great performances in a regular basis.
Transfers to Monterrey
Pineda is a new signing for Monterrey following his departure from Greek side AEK Athens, the club announced Saturday.
Analysis: Pineda will give Rayados a versatile and technically gifted midfielder who made 31 Super League 1 appearances last season, producing five goals and two assists over that period while earning AEK Athens' Player of the Season honor. The Mexican international also featured in a couple of games during the 2026 World Cup. He steps into the creative role vacated by Sergio Canales' departure, reuniting with manager Matias Almeyda, who coached him to a Liga MX title and CONCACAF Champions Cup at Chivas, and he's expected to operate as one of Monterrey's primary attacking midfielders. Pineda's versatility across multiple midfield spots should make him one of Rayados' most heavily used pieces in Apertura 2026, and his creativity could allow him to become a viable set-piece taker eventually.
