Albert Gudmundsson
LAZ
Facing extended absence
Gudmundsson (shoulder) "has been told he could miss up to two months, but we hope he'll recover more quickly," coach Gennaro Gattuso announced.
Analysis: Gudmundsson sprained his AC joint playing with Iceland and, while he avoided surgery and escaped without too much structural damage, he's set for a fairly lengthy spell on the sidelines. He's been a deputy in multiple offensive and midfield roles thus far.
Set to skip some matches
Gudmundsson is dealing with a left AC joint sprain that was immediately reduced, Lazio announced.
Analysis: Gudmundsson is poised to be sidelined for three to four weeks, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, so he'll have to miss at least one or two matches in October. He wasn't a regular yet following a late transfer. Mattia Zaccagni, Gustav Tang Isaksen and Mattia Cancellieri could enjoy an uptick in minutes in his absence.
Diagnosed with shoulder injury
Gudmundsson is dealing with a minor shoulder sprain and could miss time after the break, Il Messaggero reported.
Analysis: Gudmundsson returned early from Iceland after getting dinged up during a Nations League game. While the tests ruled out serious damage, he's considered iffy for at least the Monza game on October 11. He'll be closely monitored in the next 10 days. He's only been deployed off the bench so far.
Withdrawn injured against Estonia
Gudmundsson was forced off after 30 minutes of Iceland's Nations League opener against Estonia on Saturday,
Analysis: Gudmundsson could be sidelined pending the outcome of an examination, and no timeframe can be attached until then. He is one of Iceland's primary attacking outlets and had started the group opener. The forward joined Lazio on loan from Fiorentina this season but did not receive regular minutes with the club, and Lazio will be monitoring the situation through the remainder of the window.
Scores late game-winner in Udinese game
Gudmundsson scored one goal to go with two shots (one on target) and one chance created in 10 minutes in Monday's 2-1 victory versus Udinese.
Analysis: Gudmundsson made an immediate impact off the bench, deciding the game with a sneaky header from the middle of the box on a cross from the left wing. He'll likely operate behind Davide Frattesi and Mattia Zaccagni early in his Lazio stay. He has recorded multiple crosses and at least one key pass in his first two showings, accumulating six (two on target) and six, respectively.
Transfers to Lazio
Gudmundsson is moving to Lazio on loan from Fiorentina.
Analysis: Gudmundsson departs after struggling to replicate his Genoa numbers in his two years at Fiorentina, although he was still solid in 2025/2026, totaling 41 shots (15 on target), 32 chances created and 57 crosses (13 accurate) in 33 tilts (27 starts). Fiorentina have signed Alieu Njie and Pedro Goncalves, while he'll compete with Mattia Zaccagni and Davide Frattesi in Rome, unless the coach switches to a very offensive-minded scheme featuring all three together.
Creates five chances in Frosinone game
Gudmundsson registered four shots (one on goal), three crosses (one accurate) and four corners and created five scoring chances in Saturday's 3-0 loss against Frosinone.
Analysis: Gudmudsson made his seasonal debut after oddly not seeing any minutes in the opener, replacing Marco Brescianini in the XI, and engineered most of the offense, putting up strong numbers and leading his team in key passes, but Fiorentina didn't manage to score despite creating a lot. Fiorentina are rumored to be adding competition on the wings, so his playing time isn't particularly secure.
