Effort rewarded, plays 67 minutes
Duarte logged a clearance and an interception across 67 minutes during Cape Verde's 3-2 loss Friday to Argentina.
Analysis: After a limited output against Spain, Duarte subsequently improved when both Uruguay and Saudi Arabia competed against his team. The improvement can indicate why, in terms of Cape Verde's starting XI, he replaced Jamiro Monteiro against Argentina. Unfortunately for Duarte, playing against the World Cup's contenders resulted in much more defense than offense, his lone contribution barely a chance created. So after 67 minutes, he was replaced by the aforementioned Monteiro, who logged relatively equal minutes despite his demoted role. During the World Cup, Duarte logged six chances created, three shots on goal, an accurate cross and a corner.
Two chances created in draw
Duarte had two shots (two on goal) and two chances created in Sunday's 2-2 draw versus Uruguay.
Analysis: Duarte entered for Kevin Pina in the 71st minute and nearly capped off a dramatic comeback victory, ripping a shot straight at Fernando Muslera after finding himself with a golden opportunity to steal all three points for Cape Verde deep into stoppage time. His arrival injected fresh life into Cape Verde's midfield as the Tubaroes Azuis turned up the pressure in search of a winner following Helio Varela's equalizer. The midfielder finished with two shots on target and two chances created in just 19 minutes, and Cape Verde now shift their focus to a decisive final group-stage clash against Saudi Arabia as the tournament newcomers continue their push for a historic knockout-stage berth.
