Says goodbye to international play
Neuer made two saves and allowed one goal in Monday's 1-1 (5-4) penalty shootout defeat against Paraguay.
Analysis: Neuer was not challenged much by Paraguay but would be beaten by them once in the first half, then held strong until a penalty shootout. He would then save one penalty, but that was not enough after three misses from Germany, as they exited in the round of 32. He ends his tournament with five goals conceded, five saves and no clean sheets, a bit disappointing for a legend of the game. This will also end the goalie's international career after coming out of retirement for the World Cup, earning 128 international caps while recording 50 clean sheets, even winning the World Cup in net with Germany in 2014.
Allows two against Ecuador
Neuer had one save and allowed two goals in Thursday's 2-1 loss versus Ecuador.
Analysis: Neuer was not at his best form as Germany was beaten by Ecuador on Thursday, with the goalie making only one save while allowing two goals. That said, the legendary German keeper is yet to earn a clean sheet this World Cup, allowing four goals in three games. He will need to do better as they head into the round of 32, set to face either Paraguay, Sweden or Ecuador, none of them being easy tasks.
