DNP versus Genoa

Beukema (Achilles) didn't feature in Saturday's 2-0 victory over Genoa.

Analysis: Beukema was good to go after nursing a nagging injury in recent weeks, but he didn't start and didn't come off the bench when Rafa Marin (undisclosed) bowed out. Recent newcomer Benoit Badiashile will also be in the mix to partner Amir Rrahmani while Alessandro Buongiorno (knee) is out.

Called up for Genoa clash

Beukema (Achilles) made Napoli's squad list to face Genoa on Saturday.

Analysis: Beukema was expected to need more time to work on his fitness after dealing with a lingering injury throughout the summer, but the coach selected him even though he trained fully only late in the week. He's expected to begin on the bench, despite the absence of Alessandro Buogiorno (knee). Either Rafa Marin or Mathias Olivera will join Amir Rrahmani.

Nursing nagging injury

Beukema has been dealing with bilateral Achilles tendonitis and will miss at least the opener against Genoa, Ottopagine reported.

Analysis: Beukema has sat out most of the friendlies and will need to ramp up after returning to full training, but he shouldn't spend a lot of time on the shelf, as he could be back for the second round versus Como or shortly thereafter. Amir Rrahmani and Rafa Marin are the only center-backs currently healthy due to Alessandro Buongiorno's (knee) and Luca Marianucci's (knee) injuries.

Quiet showing in Como contest

Beukema generated two clearances and 41 completed passes and committed one foul in Saturday's 0-0 draw against Como.

Analysis: Beukema got the nod since Mathias Olivera (thigh) and Juan Jesus (personal) were missing, but didn't stick out or put up numbers even though Napoli stifled a high-wattage offense. He'll also see competition from Giovanni Di Lorenzo in the last three matches. He has tallied three tackles (two won), two interceptions and five clearances in the last five matches (two starts).
