Here’s the thing: Christian Pulisic is not quite the player he is marketed as.
He would not share the same set as Lionel Messi without being American in the lead-up to a World Cup in North America.
Talented though he undoubtedly is, he cannot win games by himself. The players who can — Messi, Kylian Mbappe — remain in the tournament.
He is being held to a standard set by ad executives rather than his own very good — but not great — ability. Pundits lose sight of this.
