Diagnosed with thigh injury

Isak has withdrawn from the remainder of Sweden's international camp due to a minor thigh injury suffered during the 2-1 win over Romania, according to Sweden head coach Graham Potter, per Liverpool Echo. "He's got a small problem with his thigh. It's not a big one but because of the amount of games we've got in a small space of time, he won't be able to make those. Unfortunately after getting it checked out, it's a little bit more than what you think during the match. He has to miss the rest of the camp."

Analysis: Isak will return to Liverpool for assessment after the thigh issue proved slightly more significant than initially thought following the Romania match. Sweden head coach Graham Potter stressed that the injury is minor, and the forward will have the remainder of the international break to recover before Liverpool face Manchester City on Oct. 11. If Isak is unable to return in time, Cody Gakpo and Lewis Koumas could see increased opportunities leading the line.

Returns to Liverpool with injury

Isak will return to Liverpool from international duty with Sweden due to a minor injury and will be assessed by the club's medical staff, according to the club.

Analysis: Isak was seen with a bloody toe after taking a heavy stamp against Romania and will now use the remainder of the international break to recover. The early indication is that the issue is minor, giving him time to regain fitness before Liverpool resume their season against Manchester City on Oct. 11. If Isak is unable to return in time, Cody Gakpo and Lewis Koumas could see increased opportunities up front.

Scores winner

Isak scored one goal to go with three shots (one on goal), one cross (zero accurate) and one chance created in Sunday's 1-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 58th minute.

Analysis: Isak only managed to carve out half a chance during Sunday's win, but that's all he needed, as he finished with aplomb. That goal was enough for all three points on the road in Bournemouth. That also puts the striker up to four goals in five matches to start the campaign. His all-around game hasn't been perfect, but that sort of goalscoring is exactly what Liverpool wanted from him.

Struggles Saturday

Isak recorded three shots (one on goal) in Saturday's 0-0 draw versus Fulham.

Analysis: Isak was disappointing during Saturday's draw. He didn't make a difference going forward and his volume was frustrating as he couldn't get control of the match. Isak has been lackluster since joining Liverpool and this was another game where he simply couldn't get on the ball frequently enough.

Adds assist in win

Isak assisted once to go with two shots (zero on goal) and two chances created in Wednesday's 2-1 victory versus Atletico Madrid.

Analysis: Isak set up Alexis Mac Allister during Wednesday's win, providing the winning goal. The forward was excellent throughout the match and led the line well, he's already off to a much better start this season. Isak is too talented to never come good in a Liverpool jersey and it seems he's finally got his new club figured out.

Nets brace vs. Ipswich

Isak scored two goals to go with two shots (two on goal) in Friday's 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town.

Analysis: Isak made his presence felt early with a brace inside the opening 10 minutes, and while he didn't do much the rest of the way, he was key to giving Liverpool their first win of the season. The Swedish striker has been in fine form to start the campaign and has three goals in his first three league outings in 2026/27.

Scores at Anfield

Isak scored one goal to go with three shots (one on goal) and one chance created in Saturday's 2-2 draw versus Nottingham Forest.

Analysis: Isak made up for a disappointing opening match of the season with a nice finish on a pass from Cody Gakpo during Saturday's draw. The striker was impressive throughout the match and caused issues for the backline. Isak has all the talent in the world and if this Liverpool attack can gel, he could be electric.

Struggles in Tyneside

Isak recorded four shots (two on goal) and one chance created in Sunday's 2-2 draw against Newcastle United.

Analysis: Isak put two shots on goal and created a chance during Sunday's draw, but just couldn't get on the scoresheet against his old club. The big positive for Isak and Liverpool is that he looks fully fit once more, so he should be able to contribute in a big way to the first team with Hugo Ekitike injured. Isak has plenty of talent, but just needs to integrate into Liverpool's system.

Gets preseason minutes

Isak returned to club action with a 45-minute outing during Sunday's practice match against Leeds United. According to coach Andoni Iraola, "I think they did really good. They played their first 45 minutes. Obviously Florian and Alex, because they were playing in the first half, they had an easier game or a better game".

Analysis: Isak will aim to feature as his team's first-choice striker in upcoming competitions as Hugo Ekitike (Achilles) remains sidelined with a long-term injury. The former Newcastle man failed to meet expectations in his debut campaign for Liverpool, partly because he was inactive for more than three months with an ankle problem. Thus, the 2026/27 season will bring him a golden opportunity to show his skills, especially after scoring one goal and three assists across four games at the World Cup.

Joins squad for Leeds clash

Isak will be involved in Sunday's friendly against Leeds United, having only joined Liverpool's US training camp last weekend, according to coach Andoni Iraola. "With Florian, Ryan and Alex, they've been the ones arriving late. My idea is that the three of them will play the last game against Leeds. Probably we'll have to restrict their minutes"

Analysis: Isak arrived later than his teammates and will likely see his minutes capped as a result while he catches up physically. He is expected to lead the line as Liverpool's first-choice striker this season, with his movement behind the defense and clinical finishing giving the Reds a dangerous focal point in attack. His workload should continue to increase steadily as he builds toward full match fitness ahead of the new campaign.

Set for new season

Isak is ready for preseason with Liverpool and will get minutes in Sunday's friendly against Leeds United, according to coach Andoni Iraola. "Yes, my idea is for Ryan, for Florian, for Alex, for even Jeremy to have their first minutes against Leeds, we'll see how many minutes they can play but we have to start slowly, slowly integrating more of the senior players that have had less training sessions, I think they should be ready on the weekend to have their first minutes."

Analysis: Isak put together a productive World Cup campaign, consistently generating chances and finishing with one goal and three assists while creating seven scoring opportunities, despite Sweden's tournament ending with a heavy defeat to France. His expected appearance against Leeds United will mark the start of his Liverpool preseason following a post-tournament break, with the club likely to ease him back into action as preparations ramp up for the 2026/27 Premier League season. If he stays healthy, Isak is expected to take on a bigger role after Hugo Ekitike (Achilles) suffered a long-term injury.

World Cup ends against France

Isak logged two shots (one on goal) during Sweden's 3-0 loss to France on Tuesday.

Analysis: In terms of shots on goal for the World Cup, Isak was consistent all tournament, logging either one or two each appearance. Unfortunately for him, competing against a top France was an insurmountable challenge that abruptly ends his WC campaign. Even though Isak logged only one goal, the striker averaged a 1.00 G/A using chance creations. With seven created, he logged three assists, boosting some of his relatively proven teammates like Anthony Elanga, Mattias Svanberg and Viktor Gyokeres. France game aside, Isak's updated form is decently high; so ideally for the forward's club Liverpool, he will be in better shape a season after his record signing.

Decoy for Sweden's goal

Isak generated two shots (two on goal) and one chance created in Thursday's 1-1 draw versus Japan.

Analysis: Isak played 90 minutes in the final World Cup group stage game, and this was the first game that he failed to have a goal involvement despite having two shots on target. The striker was used as a decoy for Anthony Elanga to find the far corner of the goal. His strike for the far corner looked as if it could have been headed into the goal, and therefore the keeper couldn't react, and therefore Elanga found the corner. He has created seven chances across the three group stage games, creating three assists and he scored his only goal in the opening game.

Jun 20, 2026

Sets up lone goal

Isak assisted once to go with one shot (one on goal), two crosses (zero accurate) and four chances created in Saturday's 5-1 defeat against Netherlands.

Analysis: Isak provided the assist for Sweden's only goal of the match as they were entirely outplayed. Isak was actually reasonably productive whenever he got on the ball, but he was just limited as Sweden's midfield was totally dismantled. Isak is up to two goal contributions in two matches in the group stage.

Runs rampant in Tunisia fixture

Isak scored one goal and assisted twice from three shots (two on target) and two chances created in Sunday's 5-1 win versus Tunisia.

Analysis: Isak was on fire in the opener and played a part in three of the five goals, doubling his team's lead in the first half with an accurate shot from an angled position, which was poorly deflected by Abdelmouhib Chamakh, ending up in the bottom corner. He teed up Viktor Gyokeres after stripping an opponent near the box and assisted Mattias Svanberg with a subtle touch on a set piece in the second half. He was the runner-up in attempts on his side. He's off to a great start in the World Cup after a disappointing and injury-ravaged season at Liverpool, during which he posted just three goals and one assist in 23 appearances (12 starts).

Expected to start on left wing

Isak has been named in Sweden's World Cup squad and is expected to start on the left wing under coach Jon Dahl Tomasson, arriving at the tournament after a difficult first season at Liverpool heavily disrupted by injuries.

Analysis: Isak managed just three goals and one assist across 21 appearances in all competitions this season, a frustrating return for a player of his quality, but a stunning goal against Norway in the World Cup warm-up suggests he is hitting form at exactly the right time. His pace, technical ability and composure in front of goal make him one of the more dangerous wide attackers at the tournament when fit, and his ability to cut inside from the left and combine with Viktor Gyokeres in the final third gives Sweden a genuinely unpredictable attacking partnership. The World Cup represents the ideal stage for the 26-year-old to rediscover the form that made him one of Europe's most sought-after forwards, and a fully fit Isak is one of the more exciting attacking options available to manager Jon Dahl Tomasson this summer.

Bench option

Isak (undisclosed) is on the bench for Sunday's match against Brentford.

Analysis: Isak is back in the team Sunday despite his doubtful tag, as the forward earns a spot working from the bench. He hopes to see some time on the field to end his rough first campaign with the team, only available for 14 games (eight starts) while recording three goals and one assist.

May 22, 2026

Trains partially, still doubtful

Isak (undisclosed) completed parts of the training session and remains a doubt for Sunday's season finale against Brentford, according to coach Arne Slot. "Alex trains for the first time with us today, parts of what we are going to do."

Analysis: Isak had been ruled out of Friday's defeat against Aston Villa with a minor issue, but his partial involvement in training is an encouraging development heading into the final fixture of the season. The Swedish striker's situation has been carefully managed throughout the campaign given the cumulative toll of missing pre-season and subsequently breaking his leg, and the club will assess how he responds before making a final call on his involvement against Brentford. Getting him some minutes before the season ends would also be beneficial heading into the World Cup with Sweden this summer.

Could return for season finale

Isak (undisclosed) is expected to train with Liverpool next week and could return for next Sunday's season finale against Brentford, according to coach Arne Slot. "Yes, there will definitely be a chance. He missed pre-season as we all know and then he broke his leg. We've tried to be as careful as we could with him, taking into account that our other No.9, Hugo Ekitike, is out for such a long time, so we needed him as a result of that even more. We've tried to be as careful as we could, but I don't think it can come to anyone as a surprise if you miss your pre-season, if you then break your leg, that minor injuries can occur if you have to start in Premier League games immediately in that intensity. It's just a bit of bad luck for him that in the moment of time when he comes back, Hugo gets injured and we need him more. I expect him to train with us this week, but I cannot give any guarantees."

Analysis: Isak had been ruled out of Friday's 4-2 defeat against Aston Villa with a minor issue, with Cody Gakpo continuing in the number nine role in his absence. The Swedish striker's situation has been complicated throughout the season by a lack of pre-season preparation and the subsequent leg fracture. Isak has a chance to play the final game of the Reds' season, although the focus for him now is to be fully fit for the World Cup with Sweden.

May 15, 2026

Not in squad Friday

Isak is not in the squad for Friday's game against Aston Villa due to a minor injury, Ian Doyle of Liverpool Echo reports.

Analysis: While Isak is dealing with a minor issue, it was enough to sideline him from this contest. The striker is expected to be fit and available for the season finale against Brentford on Sunday, May 24.
