Juanlu is "ready for some minutes" ahead of Sunday's season opener at Manchester City, according to manager Marco Rose per The Bournenouth Echo.

Analysis: The former Sevilla defender signed with the Cherries in early August, and while he's not dealing with any injury, he's among the players that Rose identified as "needing some extra workload in recent training sessions." Juanlu figures to be an option off the bench for the Cherries in this opener Sunday, but he should be able to secure a regular starting role as the season progresses.

Signs with Bournemouth

Juanlu signed with Bournemouth after departing Sevilla, the club announced.

Analysis: Juanlu made more than 100 senior appearances for Sevilla, including six in the Champions League and a UEFA Super Cup appearance against Manchester City. He contributed three assists, 63 tackles and 12 interceptions across 32 appearances for Sevilla last season. The defender is expected to compete for the starting right back role under coach Marco Rose this season.
