Analysis: Cerv logged 87 minutes in Czechia's midfield and spent much of Wednesday's 3-0 loss to Mexico helping protect the back line before the co-hosts broke the match open with two goals in a six-minute stretch just before the hour mark. He was part of a Czech side that committed numbers forward in a must-win effort to keep its knockout-stage hopes alive, finishing with two shots, two clearances and three tackles (three won). Czechia's World Cup campaign came to an end with the defeat, finishing bottom of Group A with one point.
Gritty performance versus South Africa
Cerv won four duels and had three clearances, one shot (one on target) and one tackle (zero won) in Thursday's 1-1 draw versus South Africa.
Analysis: Cerv made his World Cup debut, as he went unused in the opener, and brought some hustle to the midfield, mostly contributing defensively. His distribution left a little to be desired, though. He'll compete with Tomas Soucek and David Zima going forward.
