Left out of squad Saturday
Garnacho has played only 11 minutes since the international break and was left out of the squad entirely for Saturday's game against Newcastle.
Analysis: Garnacho appeared to be building momentum during the international break after finding the net in friendly fixtures against Southampton and Sevilla. That scoring output has failed to earn him a larger role, as the winger received just 11 minutes against Fenerbahce in a contest Villa had already secured before missing out on the matchday squad entirely at Newcastle. The Chelsea loanee had already dropped behind multiple attacking options prior to the international window, and his total omission points to a further decline in his standing within the squad.
Scores in win over Sevilla
Garnacho put in a lively display and capped it with a goal as Villa came from behind to beat Sevilla in the Antonio Puerta Trophy on Friday.
Analysis: Garnacho scored his second goal for Villa in the win over Sevilla, a week after he got off the mark with the only goal of a behind closed doors friendly against Southampton, though he is still waiting on his first in competitive action. The winger has slipped down the pecking order and was an unused substitute in the last four games with several players ahead of him, but he put in a lively display in Spain and turned home a cross at the back post. coach Unai Emery has said Garnacho needs to keep working and make the most of whatever minutes come his way, and a performance like this could give him a timely lift.
