Makes five interceptions in shutout
Charles recorded five interceptions and drew three fouls while playing the full 90 minutes in Friday's 3-0 Nations League win over Ukraine.
Analysis: Charles completed another full 90 minutes on Friday, recording five interceptions as Northern Ireland kept a third consecutive Nations League clean sheet. He has played every minute of the campaign so far and also scored the late winner against Georgia. At club level, the 22-year-old has started three of Fulham's five Premier League matches, totalling 304 minutes without a goal or assist while remaining a regular option in midfield.
Works into starting time
Charles has started in three of Fulham's five matches to open the season.
Analysis: Charles started the season on the bench for Fulham but quickly worked into a starting role, as the midfielder started in the next three games. His performances thus far have been a bit underwhelming, mainly performing defensively as he tries to find his legs after the jump to Premier League action. He did score over the international break with Northern Ireland and will hope that gives him some confidence and form, as his current value is minimal until he produces more.
Busy in defense
Shea Charles generated one tackle (one won), two clearances and three interceptions in Saturday's 0-0 draw against Liverpool.
Analysis: Charles was busy throughout Saturday's draw as Liverpool sent wave-after-wave of attackers forward. The defender did his best to slow down the attack and earned a clean sheet with some good contributions. Charles isn't going to offer much going forward, but he can cope well with some solid defensive volume.
Signs five year deal with Fulham
Charles has signed a five year contract with Fulham through June 2031, with a club option for an additional year, joining from Southampton, according to the club.
Analysis: Charles registered eight goal involvements, including six goals and two assists, across 38 appearances for Southampton last season as the club reached the FA Cup semifinals and the playoff final before their expulsion from the latter, following a successful loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday in which he featured in all 46 league matches and was voted the club's Player of the Season. The 22 year old midfielder, a Manchester City academy product who made his Premier League debut under coach Pep Guardiola in 2023, has earned 35 caps for Northern Ireland, including four as captain, and will wear the number 19 shirt as he begins the next chapter of his career.
