Fedde Leysen
Suffers ACL tear
Leysen has been diagnosed with a ruptured ACL in his left knee and will soon undergo surgery, Sassuolo announced.
Analysis: Leysen sustained one of the worst possible injuries in an awkward fall against Milan and will miss most of the season, if not all of it, as the timetable depends on how rehab goes. Duje Caleta-Car, Cas Odenthal and Fali Cande will patrol the middle of the defense until Jay Idzes (thigh) returns.
Bows out early versus Milan
Leysen had one clearance in 26 minutes before departing Sunday's match against Milan because of a possible knee injury, Gianluca Di Marzio reported.
Analysis: Leysen didn't play enough to put up stats and had to be helped off the pitch after a pretty significant torsion of the joint. He'll undergo tests in the coming days. Sassuolo will play their next match against Frosinone on Friday. With Jay Idzes (thigh) also sidelined, Cas Odenthal came off the bench to replace him.
Earns start, notches assist
Leysen assisted once to go with zero corners and one chance created in Saturday's 2-1 win versus Torino.
Analysis: Leysen was given the start in the middle of the defense Saturday after a bench role in the opener, playing the full 90. He would come up with a big moment in the 78th minute, finding Domenico Berardi for the game-winning goal. This is his first assist in the league following a loan from Belgium, also adding four clearances in the defense Saturday.
Heads to Sassuolo
Leysen has joined Sassuolo on loan with a conditional obligation to buy from Union SG.
Analysis: Leysen comes in to replace Tarik Muharemovic and is likely to have a regular role once he has adjusted to his new surroundings. He recorded 16 tackles, four interceptions and 13 clearances in seven UEFA Champions League games last year, with no clean sheets.
