Resumes running
Gronbaek (muscle) returned to the pitch for light running Thursday as he continues his recovery from a torn muscle fiber, according to the club.
Analysis: Gronbaek has progressed from gym work to running but has yet to resume team training, with his recovery initially expected to take three to four weeks. The midfielder is not expected to be available against Hoffenheim on Oct. 10, though a return against Stuttgart on Oct. 17 appears more realistic. His workload should continue to increase gradually over the coming weeks as he works toward rejoining the squad.
Confirmed muscle tear, out several weeks
Gronbaek has suffered a confirmed tear in his right thigh, and will need to take it easier over the coming weeks, according to the club.
Analysis: Gronbaek's injury was confirmed via MRI carried out in coordination with the national team and Hamburg's medical staff, an issue suffered after coming on for his 10th cap in the loss to Norway. It costs him the remaining matches against Wales and Portugal in this window, and comes after a strong start to the season in which he started all five competitive matches, scoring twice in the DFB Pokal against Verl and adding two assists in the recent Bundesliga win over Koln.
