ACL injury confirmed
Riad is expected to spend a long time on the sidelines after rupturing his ACL, according to Bobby Manzi, per the Daily Mail.
Analysis: Riad was stretchered off in the 70th minute of Palace's defeat at Everton, and scans this week confirmed the injury, marking the second ACL tear of his career after he missed 69 games in his first season at the club following his move from Barcelona. He had featured frequently for Palace down the stretch of last season, including a start in the Conference League final win over Rayo Vallecano, and this fresh setback is a significant blow, with recent loan arrival Axel Disasi well positioned to fill the void in central defense.
Return timeline remains unclear
Riad (knee) remains without a clear recovery timeline as Crystal Palace seek further specialist advice regarding his injury, according to coach Pierre Sage. "We need another opinion from a specialist because it's always difficult to give a good schedule for this kind of thing."
Analysis: Riad suffered the knee injury during Saturday's season opener against Everton and was stretchered off in the 72nd minute. Palace are not yet ready to provide a diagnosis or timetable for his return, with the club seeking another specialist opinion before offering an official update. The recent arrival of Axel Disasi on loan provides Palace with a timely reinforcement in central defense, with the Frenchman well positioned to compete for Riad's place while the latter remains sidelined.
