Saliba (undisclosed) is not in the squad for Saturday's game against Valencia.
Analysis: Saliba misses out after experiencing discomfort during Tuesday's Champions League defeat to Liverpool. The midfielder has been unable to recover in time for the derby. His absence leaves Villarreal without an important midfield option, with Pape Gueye and Carlos Macia starting in midfield.
Facing late fitness test
Saliba (undisclosed) is questionable for Saturday's derby against Valencia after experiencing discomfort during Tuesday's Champions League defeat to Liverpool, according to coach Inigo Perez. "He has some discomfort, we will see if he can join us."
Analysis: Saliba faces a late fitness assessment ahead of Saturday's derby against Valencia after picking up an injury during Tuesday's 4-3 Champions League defeat to Liverpool. The Canadian midfielder delivered an impressive performance before being forced off, providing an assist for Sergi Cardona's 29th minute goal with a well-placed through ball. Although the exact nature and severity of his injury remain unclear, coach Perez confirmed that Saliba is still experiencing discomfort, leaving his availability dependent on how he progresses before kickoff. His potential absence would deprive Villarreal of an important midfield option, particularly following his productive display in European competition. Pape Gueye and Santi Comesana would be among the alternatives available to cover the central midfield positions if Saliba is unable to feature.
