Clean sheet in XI return
Pubill registered two clearancesand one interception in Saturday's 1-0 victory against Espanyol.
Analysis: Pubill returned to the starting lineup against Espanyol after two games on the bench and helped Atletico to a clean sheet. The defender was one of Diego Simeone's most important players last season, but the arrival of Cristian Romero has cost him his regular place in the centre of defence. His route back in at right back has also narrowed, as Simeone has moved Marcos Llorente there and turned to Pablo Barrios and Johnny Cardoso in midfield. With Romero expected to be out for a short spell, Pubill could get a chance to stake his claim in the center of defense again.
Regular starter in back line
Pubill has featured in seven of Atletico Madrid's eight matches this season across all competitions and played 45 minutes in the derby win over Real Madrid before being substituted.
Analysis: Pubill maintains a regular presence in the back line of Atletico, though he was substituted at halftime of the derby with Marcos Llorente sliding into his unsual right-back role for the second half. He has not missed significant time to injury and remains part of manager Simeone's regular starting option in the newly back-three or at wing back depending on the system. His continued involvement in a strong defensive start, with the team sitting second in La Liga, points to a steady role going forward.
