Lopes Cabral logged one goal on two shots (two on goal), seven crosses (two accurate) and five corners during Cape Verde's 3-2 loss Friday to Argentina.
Analysis: No longer suspended and added to Cape Verde's starting XI against reigning World Cup champion Argentina, Lopes Cabral made the most of his newfound opportunity, particularly after their game continued into extra time. During its first half, with ball possession outside Argentina's penalty box, the left-back evaded Alexis Mac Allister by going to his right. Still outside the box, Lopes Cabral finessed a shot over Nahuel Molina and past Emiliano Martinez for an unparalleled goal. It is Lopes Cabral's first for the WC tournament, during which he also logged eight corners and two chances created. Defensively, the left-back recorded 15 clearances, three interceptions and two blocks.
Suspension over
Cabral is no longer suspended and will be able to face Argentina in the round of 32 on July 3.
Analysis: Cabral had earned a one-game ban after picking up yellow cards in each of his first two World Cup matches, which ruled him out of the clash against Saudi Arabia. With his suspension now served, he is expected to regain his spot on the left side of Cape Verde's back line for the knockout stage fixture.
