Will miss rest of season
Gillier underwent shoulder surgery and will miss the rest of the 2026 MLS season, the club announced Thursday.
Analysis: Gillier hadn't played for Montreal since Aug. 29, when he allowed seven goals against Inter Miami. The Chilean goalkeeper ends the campaign with 42 goals allowed and four clean sheets across 19 starts. It remains to be seen where he'll play next season, as his Montreal loan expires at the end of 2026 and is under contract with Bologna.
Yet to resume team training
Gillier (upper body) was not spotted at CF Montreal's training session Monday, leaving his availability for Wednesday's MLS clash against Atlanta United in doubt, according to Maxime Truman.
Analysis: Gillier remains sidelined with an upper-body injury and has yet to return to team training, putting his availability against Atlanta in doubt. The Chilean goalkeeper had already lost his starting role to Sebastian Breza earlier this season, limiting the impact of his absence on Montreal's first-choice lineup. Gillier has averaged 2.9 saves and 2.2 goals conceded per MLS appearance in 2026, but his continued absence leaves Montreal with reduced depth in goal. No return timeline has been established.
