Leaving Racing to join Olympiacos
Puerta completed a permanent transfer from Racing Santander to Olympiacos on Tuesday.
Analysis: Puerta emerged as an all-around midfielder for Colombia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and his early displays in the 2026/27 LaLiga season caught the eye of several teams in Europe. Olympiacos paid the full amount of the release clause, so Puerta figures to have a key role in the midfielder. Ivan Martin could be handed a bigger role in the middle of Racing's midfielder now that Puerta is no longer in the picture.
Diverse stat line in loss
Puerta recorded two shots (one on goal) and one chance created in Tuesday's 0-0 (4-3) penalty shootout loss versus Switzerland.
Analysis: Puerta attempted a dangerous shot to the far post in the first half and was otherwise active as a box-to-box midfielder in the round of 16 defeat. Overall, Puerta made a positive impression as one of his country's immovable players during the competition. Particularly, his averages of 2.8 shots and 52.6 accurate passes ranked second and third, respectively, among Colombia players. He also notched one assist over five appearances.
