Saddled with own goal versus Milan

Halhal had an own goal, one tackle (one won) and three clearances and committed two fouls in 46 minutes in Friday's 2-0 defeat versus AC Milan.

Analysis: Halhal came in right before the interval for Bartol Franjic (shoulder) and had an okay showing, but the ball bounced off him after a save on a last-ditch effort to avoid a goal and went in anyway. He'll likely enter the XI if the teammate misses time, considering that Matias Moreno (thigh) is also dinged up.

Transfers to Venezia

Halhal has inked a contract with Venezia until 2030 upon joining from KV Mechelen.

Analysis: Halhal started twice for Morocco in the recent World Cup, helping secure one clean sheet and posting one tackle, one interception and 11 clearances. He totaled 24 appearances, scoring once and assisting twice, in his first season in the top flight in Belgium. He joins Armel Bella-Kotchap, Joel Schingtenne and Matias Moreno in Venezia's revamped defense.

World Cup ends with 11 clearances

Halhal went unused in Thursday's 2-0 loss to France.

Analysis: Halhal was not given any time on the field Thursday as the defender went unused in the loss. This is despite a start in the round of 16, ending his tournament with two starts in two appearances. He ends the tournament with one tackle, an interception, 11 clearances and 113 passes completed.

Five clearances in spot start

Halhal had five clearances and one interception in Saturday's 3-0 win against Canada. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 20th minute.

Analysis: Halhal got the start over Chadi Riad, and he had a solid job while dealing with the threat of Jonathan David and Tani Oluwaseyi. Riad should be back in the XI for the quarterfinals next week, however, so don't expect Halhal to remain in the lineup going forward.

Plays 90 minutes

Halhal generated one tackle (one won) and six clearances in Wednesday's 4-2 victory over Haiti.

Analysis: Halhal would start Wednesday after going unused in the opening two games of the tournament, with Morocco facing some rotation in the group stage finale. He would play the full 90 as he recorded one tackle won and six clearances, although the two goals allowed were a major blemish. He should return to the bench for knockout stage play.
