Signs with Elversberg
Campbell has signed a four year contract with SV Elversberg through 2030, joining from Borussia Dortmund following a loan spell at TSG Hoffenheim, according to the club.
Analysis: Campbell made seven competitive appearances for Dortmund's first team, including in the Champions League, before spending the second half of last season on loan at Hoffenheim, where he made five Bundesliga appearances. Born in Houston with dual American and Icelandic citizenship, he began his career in Atlanta United's academy before moving to Iceland, where he debuted for FH Hafnarfjordur's first team at age 15. He has switched his international allegiance from Iceland to the United States, earning 12 caps across the US youth national teams including an appearance at the 2025 U20 World Cup. The move to Elversberg, who are preparing for life in the Bundesliga next season, gives Campbell a fresh opportunity to build on his development at a higher level of first team football.
Returns to Dortmund
Campbell will return to parent club Borussia Dortmund after Hoffenheim decided not to exercise their purchase option following his six-month loan spell, the club announced.
Analysis: Campbell joined in January but made minimal impact during his time in the Kraichgau, managing just 16 minutes of Bundesliga action off the bench across the second half of the season. Hoffenheim thanked Campbell for his efforts during the loan period and wished him well for the next chapter of his career, with the young attacker now heading back to Dortmund where his future will be determined ahead of the 2026/27 season.
