Undergoes successful knee surgery
Roman (knee) underwent successful arthroscopic surgery Thursday to remove a loose body from his right knee and is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks, according to the club.
Analysis: Roman is set to begin his rehabilitation in the coming days after the procedure was completed without complications. The four-to-six-week recovery timeline could keep the regular midfielder sidelined until around the November international break. Aleix Febas is likely to see increased opportunities in central midfield alongside Ilaix Moriba during Roman's absence.
Set for arthroscopy
Roman (knee) will undergo an arthroscopy and is expected to be sidelined between four to six weeks, the club announced Tuesday.
Analysis: The four-to-six-week recovery timeline is assuming Roman won't suffer any setbacks, but it wouldn't be surprising if Celta take a cautious approach and postpone his return until after the November international break. Roman has been a regular starter in midfield for the Balaidos side, so his loss is a massive one. This means Aleix Febas could be in line to see more minutes in central midfield alongside Ilaix Moriba.
Suffers knee injury Tuesday
Roman suffered a severe knee injury during Tuesday's training session, according to Oscar Mendez of Radio MARCA.
Analysis: Roman could undergo surgery to address the problem, but even if he avoids the surgery, he's looking at an absence of two or three months at a bare minimum. That's a huge blow for Celta Vigo, as Roman had become a regular starter for the Balaidos side in the early stages of the 2026/27 campaign, with one goal and two assists across seven appearances.
Two goal contributions
Roman scored one goal and assisted once from two shots and one chance created in Saturday's 5-0 win against Racing Santander.
Analysis: Roman would be a major help to Celta's win Saturday, as the midfielder bagged an assist on Ilaix Moriba's 43rd-minute goal before a goal of his own in the 68th minute. This is his first goal contribution in four league appearances, with only three this season. He continues to be a starter, so this type of output from a central midfielder is solid to see.
Three shots, no goal
Roman had three shots (zero on goal) and one chance created in Monday's 1-1 draw against Getafe.
Analysis: Roman had a few chances at net with his three shots, but was unable to put any of those shots on net. This is now a third straight game without a goal contribution for the midfielder after an assist in the second game of the season.
Gets an assist
Miguel Roman assisted once to go with four crosses (zero accurate) and four corners in Thursday's 2-1 loss versus Osasuna.
Analysis: Roman's crossing wasn't necessarily accurate, but he got enough volume and connecting play to generate an assist in the loss. He should keep Celta Vigo's offense flowing in a favorable matchup against Athletic, a team that allowed 58 goals a season ago in LaLiga and has already let in five this season.
Receives medical green light
Roman received the medical green light during the first week of preseason, according to the club.
Analysis: Roman had undergone surgery for a fifth metatarsal fracture in his left foot, a setback that effectively ended his 2025/26 season and required a lengthy rehabilitation process including antigravity treadmill work. Getting the medical clearance so early in preseason is an encouraging sign for Celta, positioning Roman to build up his fitness in time to compete for a regular spot in the midfield rotation of the Celeste heading into 2026/27.
Progressing well in rehab
Roman (foot) is making progress in his recovery from the fifth metatarsal fracture surgery and has incorporated antigravity treadmill work at the FREMAP hospital in Vigo into his rehabilitation program under the supervision of Celta's medical services, according to the club.
Analysis: Roman had undergone successful surgery after fracturing the fifth metatarsal in his left foot during training, with a three-month recovery timeline effectively ending his season. His progression to treadmill work is an encouraging step in what is expected to be a lengthy rehabilitation process, and Celta will be hoping to have him fully fit and available for the start of the 2026/27 campaign. Hugo Sotelo, Matias Vecino and Hugo Alvarez have been sharing the midfield duties in his absence.
