Mella (knee) is available for selection once again after overcoming his injury and featuring in Saturday's clash with Genoa, per the team's match report.
Analysis: Mella will add offensive strength to a Deportivo side that could use him as a right winger or wing-back, depending on the formation in the initial matches of the season. He previously racked up five goals and one assist over 25 appearances (17 starts) while taking corner kicks from the left side in the 2025/26 La Liga 2 campaign. While he's not guaranteed to spend a lot of time on the field, he'll be in contention with Adria Altimira and see increased opportunities if the latter requires more time to recover from a knee discomfort.
Begins group training
Mella (knee) has begun training with the group, according to Dxt Campeon.
Analysis: Mella suffered a serious injury on March 8 that ended his season early, undergoing surgery on his lateral collateral ligament days later. His reintegration will be gradual under the supervision of the medical and technical staff, who will continue monitoring his progress, with the goal of building up his workload over the coming weeks until he matches the rest of the squad. The academy product spent his summer working through the final stages of his recovery without a break. Mella is targeting availability for Deportivo's season opener against Elche on Aug. 17 at Riazor.
Training away from group
Mella was training away from the group this week as he works his way back from a serious knee injury sustained in March, according to La Voz de Galicia.
Analysis: Mella underwent knee surgery in late March after suffering a ligament tear, and his initial recovery time was estimated at around four months. The fact that he's still training away from the group isn't exactly encouraging, but Mella could have a shot at playing in any of the pre-season friendlies if he doesn't suffer any setbacks. Starting July 18, Deportivo will play seven friendly matches before opening their 2026/27 Liga campaign against Elche on Aug. 17.
