Contributes to opener in win
Hato had one tackle (one won) and one clearance in Saturday's 2-0 win versus Everton.
Analysis: Hato made an important contribution after replacing the injured Pep Chavarria in Chelsea's starting lineup. He played a part in Pedro Neto's opening goal as he low-crossed the ball, which deflected off James Tarkowski before reaching Neto. He had one tackle and one clearance with the Blues securing their first clean sheet of the Premier League campaign. The Dutch left-back also had a 100 per cent dribble rate and won all three of his ground duels.
Subbed off at halftime after error
Hato recorded one tackle and one interception in Saturday's 2-2 draw against Hull City before being substituted at halftime for tactical reasons. Head coach Xabi Alonso confirmed the reason for the substitution when asked about the change, per Football London."Tactical, we wanted a player with another profile, that with Pep [Chavarria] and Jorrel, it's different and that was the decision."
Analysis: Hato's afternoon ended at halftime after an error that led directly to Hull's first goal, and Pep Chavarria's introduction gives coach Xabi Alonso a live alternative for the left-sided defensive role going forward. Alonso attributed the change to wanting a different profile and did not link it to the mistake, though the timing invites the connection and much of the post-match coverage has drawn it. His position in the side is now genuinely competitive, with Chavarria offering an alternative and Alonso still working out his preferred defensive setup after a start to the season in which Chelsea have scored freely and conceded just as readily.
