Back in training for preseason

Freeman has returned to training with Villarreal for preseason after his participation with the United States at the World Cup, the club announced.

Analysis: Freeman had a strong tournament, contributing a goal and an assist during the competition, numbers that reflect his attacking instincts and willingness to push forward from right back. His return now shifts focus to Villarreal's preseason preparations, where his pace and energy down the flank will put him in competition with Santiago Mourino for the starting role. Freeman is expected to build up his fitness gradually as preseason continues.

All-around effort in loss

Freeman had two shots (zero on goal), three crosses (zero accurate) and one chance created in Monday's 4-1 loss versus Belgium.

Analysis: Freeman was perhaps the most active member of a shaky defensive unit in Monday's game. Despite the goals conceded, the Villarreal man managed to contribute through several offensive stats and 10 duels won over 90 minutes on the field. During the entire World Cup, he scored one goal and an assist, and also focused on defensive tasks across considerable stretches of games, tallying 15 clearances and 14 tackles in 373 minutes of play.

Two tackles Wednesday

Freeman recorded one shot (zero on goal) in Wednesday's 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Analysis: Freeman was back in his right-back role after he was rested in the last match, as he sat on a yellow card, playing the full 90 minutes. He would record a clearance, two interceptions and a few tackles in the defense as the USMNT notched a clean sheet, a solid day. He will be set to remain a starter heading into the round of 16, being a rising talent in the squad during this World Cup.

Scores vs. Australia

Freeman scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) and one chance created in Friday's 2-0 win against Australia.

Analysis: Freeman doubled the USMNT lead with a header in the final moments of the first half, but he also looked the part defensively against a rugged, physical Australian team. Freeman has been a solid contributor for the USMNT in the first two games and should remain in the XI unless the coaching staff decides to tweak the squad in the group-stage finale against Turkiye on Thursday, June 25.

Assist from defense

Freeman recorded one assist on one chance created in Friday's 4-1 win over Paraguay.

Analysis: Freeman would be the recipient of the last assist of the night, finding Giovanni Reyna in stoppage time for a beautiful goal to cap off the great night. Freeman also did well in the defense despite the USA not earning a clean sheet, notching one tackle won and two interceptions in the defense. He has now started in the opener, although he could see some rotation with Mark McKenzie moving forward.
