Scores in friendly win
Jacquet scored his first Liverpool goal in Sunday's 2-0 friendly win over Como.
Analysis: Jacquet is finally ready to see action for his new club following his recovery from a knee issue. The defender's goal caps a positive preseason outing after he returned to the lineup Sunday. With his recent knee issue no longer keeping him out, Jacquet appears to be building momentum ahead of the new campaign. He could eventually offer defensive value and occasional goal threat if he takes on a major role in the contention with Ronald Araujo for a spot alongside Virgil van Dijk in the center-back pairing.
Starts vs. Como
Jacquet (knee) is in the starting lineup for Sunday's final preseason friendly against Como, a positive sign ahead of the season opener against Newcastle United on Aug. 23, the club announced.
Analysis: Jacquet had been recovering from a knee injury that kept him out of the earlier friendly against Monaco, with coach Andoni Iraola previously saying his return was taking a bit of time as expected. This start marks his likely Liverpool debut following his summer move, a significant step in his integration with the squad. He'll be in contention with Ronald Araujo for a starting role in the season opener.
Trains fully with team
Jacquet (knee) was spotted back in team training Wednesday, according to the club.
Analysis: Jacquet had been recovering from a knee injury that kept him out of the friendly against Monaco, with coach Andoni Iraola previously saying his return was taking a little bit of time as expected. His return to team training is an encouraging step as he looks to make his Liverpool debut following his summer move, with the club's next friendly against Como on August 16 or the season opener against Newcastle on August 23 both potential targets for his first appearance.
Eyeing next friendly for return
Jacquet (knee) was not in Sunday's friendly against Monaco but is eyeing a return to action next contest when facing Como on August. 16, according to manager Andoni Iraola. "Jeremy, we were in doubt whether to put him [in the squad] today, we decided not, but he should be fine for the next one. It is taking a little bit of time, as we expected."
Analysis: Jacquet is still recovering from an knee injury and was close to featuring Sunday but was rested for another game, instead looking ahead to their next friendly for a return. This is as the defender tries to get his first minutes with the team following a transfer this summer. Either way, it looks like he should return ahead of the new season, likely to be an option for their opener against Newcastle on Aug. 23.
Decision pending for Leeds match
Jacquet's involvement against Leeds United remains undecided as he manages some discomfort in training, according to coach Andoni Iraola. "With Jeremy we still don't know if it's worth it or not to put him in against Leeds. He did the first part of the pre-season very well. Now he's feeling some discomfort, so we don't want to rush him"
Analysis: Jacquet is coming off a lengthy spell without playing following shoulder surgery, and the club is taking a cautious approach given his recent history. Manager Andoni Iraola noted he'd eventually like to pair the defender with Virgil van Dijk given the club's shortage of senior center backs following Joe Gomez's injury. Jacquet is expected to continue being managed carefully as preseason progresses.
Set to feature vs. Leeds
Jacquet is expected to feature in the final preseason fixture of Liverpool's US trip against Leeds United on Aug. 2, according to coach Andoni Iraola, per Liverpool Echo. "With Jeremy we decided to take it easy with him. He's had a lot of months without playing with his shoulder injury, he's been training very well, but we're going to take it easy with him"
Analysis: Jacquet did not feature in Saturday's win over Sunderland as the club continues building up his fitness following season ending shoulder surgery in February. The defender has been training well, but Liverpool are taking a cautious approach given the length of his layoff. He is expected to get his first minutes of the US tour in the fixture against Leeds at Chicago's Soldier Field. Jacquet is expected to continue building toward a fuller role as the new season approaches.
Left out as precaution Saturday
Jacquet missed Saturday's friendly game against Sunderland as a precautionary measure while he dealt with a minor issue, Paul Gorst of the Liverpool Echo reports.
Analysis: Jacquet is coming off a lengthy recovery from a shoulder injury, so it's natural that the team wants to be careful with his inclusion, especially considering he's expected to step into an important role in a squad that let Ibrahima Konate go to Real Madrid in the transfer window. The young center-back will be hopeful to appear later in the preseason friendlies heading into the 2026/27 season opener on Aug. 23.
Joins Liverpool on long-term deal
Jacquet signed with Liverpool from Stade Rennais on a long-term contract, the club announced.
Analysis: Jacquet came through the Rennes academy before making 33 senior appearances for the club, including 21 during the 2025-26 campaign before a shoulder injury in February cut his season short. The 20-year-old French center-back also built up valuable experience with 24 appearances during a loan spell of around 12 months at Clermont Foot. A France under-21 international, Jacquet arrives at Anfield as one of the more highly regarded young defensive talents in French football, with Liverpool moving to secure his signature earlier this year ahead of his official arrival subject to international clearance.
