Mamadou Coulibaly
Adapts to new role
Coulibaly is being asked to play a new position for Monaco, working on the right wing in both the Ligue 1 opener and Thursday's UECL clash against Gornik, Flavien Tresarrieu of L'Equipe reports.
Analysis: Coulibaly has found success in a more offensive role away from his nominal holding midfield spot, notching one goal and an assist in the recent Conference League matchup. Positional usage can affect his value playing time, as he may not complete the full 90 minutes but would gain attacking upside if Monaco continue to deploy him in a wider spot. Additionally, he has won 14 of his 21 ground duels in the new position. His deployment on the flank might continue particularly if injured players such as Matthis Abline (foot) and Takumi Minamino (knee) remain out.
Starts on Sunday
Coulibaly had one tackle (zero won) and two interceptions in Sunday's 1-0 victory over Le Havre.
Analysis: Coulibaly recorded 30 passes before being replaced in the 57th minute. He featured in 25 games last campaign, starting 15 times and recorded nearly 1400 minutes along with six goal contributions.
