Building fitness

Cherif is still building fitness as he looks for his Premier League debut, according to manager Frank Lampard. "We see him as a striker for what he brings and what his attributes are. We're very happy, the issue is getting Sidi match fit because over the summer, when there's a possible move happening, you need to work them for what the Premier League is, so we're in that process. We'll see with tomorrow, because we feel he is in a position where he can make impact, but also for him to play a big period of a Premier League game, it might be a bit early for him, so we'll see."

Analysis: Cherif joined the club with a few weeks left in the transfer window but has yet to make his debut for the club, with the forward instead going unused. This is as the club builds his match fitness, trying to prepare the forward for Premier League play after a move from Turkey. Signs permanently with Coventry

Cherif has completed a permanent transfer to Coventry City from Fenerbahce on a long term contract, the club announced.

Analysis: Cherif joined Fenerbahce on loan with an obligation to buy in February 2026, scoring three times in the closing months of the season and gaining experience in the Europa League and Champions League qualifiers. He began his career in France, making his professional debut for Angers in 2023-24 and helping the club win promotion to Ligue 1 in 2024, before scoring four Ligue 1 goals by the end of 2025 as his form drew interest from clubs around Europe. Cherif is expected to add another attacking option and will compete for minutes with Haji Wright, who is currently sidelined, and Ellis Simms this season.
