Denied visa for US trip
Ta Bi was unable to travel with Sunderland's squad to the United States after his visa application was rejected for not meeting entry criteria, the club announced.
Analysis: Ta Bi's absence comes as Sunderland begin a preseason trip that includes friendlies against Liverpool, Leeds United and Wrexham across three US venues. The club has appealed the decision and remains hopeful he will be able to join the squad in the coming days. No timeline has been confirmed for when the situation might be resolved. Ta Bi is expected to link up with his teammates in the United States if the appeal is successful.
Makes bench Saturday
Ta Bi (ankle) is on the bench for Saturday's clash against Wolves.
Analysis: Ta Bi returned to the matchday squad after undergoing ankle surgery in March, with coach Regis Le Bris confirming he should be available for the weekend fixture. The forward has featured in just two matches this season due to his injury-plagued spell, and a bench role represents a cautious but logical first step in his reintegration given the length of his absence.
