Returns from hamstring injury
Torres (hamstring) returned from his injury as a halftime substitute in Aston Villa's Antonio Puerta Trophy win over Sevilla
Analysis: Torres looks set to end his spell on the sidelines after making his return from a hamstring injury against Nottingham Forest last month. The Spanish centre-back logged 45 minutes in Aston Villa's Antonio Puerta Trophy fixture, giving him a full half of match action under his belt. Tyrone Mings deputised admirably during his absence, but Torres now has an extended training block ahead to build up his sharpness. He remains in a strong position to reclaim his starting spot in central defense when Premier League action resumes against Brentford.
Back in training Wednesday
Torres (hamstring) trained Wednesday as Aston Villa opened its mid-season camp in Spain, according to John Townley.
Analysis: Torres is progressing toward a return after training at the start of Aston Villa's camp in Spain, less than three weeks after the hamstring injury that forced him off early against Nottingham Forest on Sept. 12. He was expected to be out until after the international break, making Brentford on Oct. 10 the clear target. Tyrone Mings has deputised in his absence, and if Torres comes through the camp without a setback, he should be in contention to reclaim his place when Aston Villa resume.
