Scores opener Sunday

Burkardt scored one goal to go with four shots (one on goal), one cross (zero accurate) and one chance created in Sunday's 4-1 loss versus FC Augsburg.

Analysis: Burkardt opened up the scoring Sunday with a header in the 6th minute off Younes Ebnoutalib's assist. It was one of four shots he took in the match. Despite his excellent start to the match, he and rest of the team fell apart in the second half and were handed the loss. Burkhardt will hope to build off his goal Saturday at Mainz.

Starting in return

Burkardt (illness) is in the starting XI for Saturday's Bundesliga opener against Union Berlin.

Analysis: Burkardt shook off the illness that had limited him during the DFB-Pokal win over St. Tonis and affected him again earlier in the week, with coach Adi Hutter handing him a starting role after the forward returned to full team training Thursday and came through the remaining sessions without any issues. Hutter had expressed confidence in his availability ahead of the weekend, and the forward's progression from light work Wednesday to a full session Thursday proved enough to earn an immediate return to the starting lineup. His return is a timely boost for Eintracht Frankfurt heading into the Bundesliga opener against Union Berlin.

Expected back against Union

Burkardt (illness) is expected to be available for Saturday's Bundesliga opener against Union Berlin after returning to team training, according to coach Adi Hutter. "We deliberately gave Jonny some rest. He was a little under the weather last week as well. I expect Jonny to be available this weekend."

Analysis: Burkardt has recovered well from the illness that limited him during the DFB-Pokal win over St. Tonis and affected him again earlier this week. The forward resumed light work Wednesday before returning to team training Thursday, putting him on track to feature Saturday. Burkardt should be in contention to return to the starting XI against Union if he comes through the remainder of the week without any issues.

Doubtful for opener with lingering cold

Burkardt remains sidelined ahead of the Bundesliga opener at Union Berlin, having missed Tuesday's training due to a stubborn cold, according to Bild.

Analysis: Burkardt first showed symptoms during the 11-0 German Cup win over St. Tonnis, a match in which he still contributed three goals and two assists before being substituted in the second half, only for the illness to hit him harder afterward. His potential absence would be significant given his central role in coach Adi Hutter's attack, having led Frankfurt with 13 goals in 22 appearances last season.

Brilliant brace to end

Burkardt scored two goals to go with three shots (two on goal) and one cross (one accurate) in Saturday's 2-2 draw versus VfB Stuttgart.

Analysis: Burkardt's first season in Frankfurt got off to a great start before injuries derailed him. He ended the season showing just how special he can be adding three goals in his final 38 minutes of the campaign. On the whole he finished with 13 goals and one assists in 1,340 minutes, and elite strike rate for anyone. Burkardt should be a key piece of the attack as he gets back to full fitness for next season.

Nets lone shot

Burkardt scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) and one chance created in Friday's 3-2 loss against Borussia Dortmund.

Analysis: Burkardt took a single shot during Friday's loss, making the most of his only chance and finding the back of the net. The striker has been excellent when healthy this campaign, but nagging injuries have proven troublesome, and have kept him out of the starting XI at times. If he can get fully fit he should be a major contributor in 2026/27.

Assists Saturday

Burkardt assisted once to go with one shot (zero on goal) and one chance created in Saturday's 2-1 defeat versus Hamburger SV.

Analysis: Burkardt set up Can Uzun during Saturday's loss. The forward tried to get involved in the attack, but his only shot was poor and he couldn't find any space on the ball in the final third. He still ended up with the assist, but that was all he managed during the poor loss. Burkardt only has a pair more matches to try and get back to his best.
