Ends time at Augsburg
Rexhbecaj (illness) has been let go by Augsburg after the 2025/26 season, having previously agreed to a return to Wolfsburg under a contract through June 2030, the club announced Friday.
Analysis: Rexhbecaj made 109 Bundesliga appearances over four years with Augsburg, notching five goals and one assist in that span. He featured mostly as a central midfielder, and occasional corner-kick duties allowed him to hold some creative value, although his role decreased over time. He'll now be in contention with Maximilian Arnold, Christian Eriksen and Yannick Gerhardt in Wolfsburg's rotation next season.
Ruled out for season finale
Rexhbecaj (illness) is ruled out for Saturday's season finale against Union Berlin.
Analysis: Rexhbecaj has been unable to recover from the illness that left him as a doubt heading into the season finale, with coach Manuel Baum's concerns earlier in the week proving accurate as Augsburg head into the final fixture of the campaign short-handed. Fabian Rieder is expected to drop into a deeper role in the engine room to cover his absence against Union Berlin. He ends the campaign with two goals, 17 crosses, 18 tackles and 20 clearances across 26 Bundesliga appearances and 10 starts.
