Departs Auxerre for Erzurumspor
Owusu has left Auxerre to sign with newly promoted Turkish side Erzurumspor, the club announced.
Analysis: Owusu joined Auxerre from Gent in January 2023, and despite an injury that delayed his debut, went on to help the club win the Ligue 2 title before two solid seasons in Ligue 1, the latter as captain. The Ghanaian international, capped for the last two World Cups, made 93 appearances for Auxerre and scored two memorable goals during his time at the club. Owusu is expected to bring his experience and leadership qualities to Erzurumspor as the club prepares for its return to the Turkish top flight. His move marks a new chapter after building a strong reputation for his professionalism and competitiveness in France.
Fit for new season with AJA
Owusu is fit and back in preseason training with Auxerre, ready for the 2026/27 Ligue 1 season, according to the club.
Analysis: Owusu made 29 Ligue 1 appearances last season, playing 2,349 minutes without a goal or assist while picking up seven yellow cards, serving primarily as a defensive presence in midfield. He also featured for Ghana at the World Cup, including a difficult outing against Croatia in which he was substituted at halftime, and his return to club training now shifts the focus to preseason preparations as he looks to regain a regular role heading into the new 2026/27 Ligue 1 campaign.
